About the Artist

Winslow Homer began his art career as an illustrator. He took up watercolor toward the middle of his career. raising the bar substantially in that medium for all who followed. His marine paintings in both oil and watercolor mark your memory for their fluid drama, both for the water and the humans populating the liquid setting. Homer's core was linked to painting exactly what he saw and he saw nature whenever possible. After recording the Civil War for Harper's Weekly, he turned to painting seriously. This reclusive legend was an elected member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Academy of Design and the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
