About the Artist
This artist blends solid pure blacks with finely textured grays and some metallic gold. Wavelike patterns sometimes bisect the circles. Form and texture are emphasized isntead of bright colors. She executes all phases of the printmaking. cutting the blocks, inking them and rubbing the paper. Influenced by her work with Koshiro Onchi and Sekino Jun'ichiro. Iwami studied art at Bunka University in Tokyo.
Her work is described and illustrated in Who's Who in Modern Japanese Prints as well as Collecting Modern Japanese Prints Then and Now by Mary and Norman Tolman. Iwami is also a haiku poet, requiring subtlety in the use of words.
