About the Artist
Emilio Sanchez was born in Camaguey, Cuba. He has already received wide acclaim for his interpretations of the people of the West Indies in lithographs, woodcuts and etchings.
The artist received his formal training at the Art Student's League and Columbia University Art School in New York City. He has traveled extensively and has exhibited his works at the Lyceum Museum, Havana, the Ateneo Espanol in Mexico City. the Bernheim-Jeune Gallery in Paris and at the Print Club in Philadelphia and the Mint Museum of Charlotte. N.C.. as well as New York and other major cities in this country.
His versatility in the field of printmaking has brought him museum recognition and his work is currently in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Museo Universitario of Havana, the Palacio de Bellas Arts of Havana, Philadelphia Museum, Cincinnati Museum and the Delaware Art Museum of Wilmington. He is also honored by having his work in two of the great private print collections of this country: the Nelson Rockefeller Collection in New York and the Lessing Rosenwald Collection in Philadelphia."
