About the Artist

(1878-1970, American)  

Herman Armour Webster was a painter-etcher who was born in New York, New York.  He was educated at Yale University in Connecticut and also studied with J.P. Laurens in Paris.  

A member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, London; Societe National des Beaux Arts, Paris; American Art Association of Paris, Paris; and the Chelsea Art Club, New York, he exhibited internationally, including at the Paris Salon of 1937.  Webster won many awards, including a gold medal in San Francisco in 1915 and was made Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur in 1927.  

His art is included in public collections throughout the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; Bibliothéque Nationale, Paris; British Museum, London; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
