About the Artist

Juanita Inez Ortiz was born in New Mexico in 1960, She learned pottery from her mother, Seferina Ortiz, who is considered one of the matriarchs of storytellers and of figurine pottery. She began working in pottery in 1984, Inez started exhibiting (and winning awards) at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1997. Inez's art has been shown at the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, alongside that of her brother Virgil Ortiz. Inez Ortiz has been featured in Native Peoples and American Indian Art magazines. She is cited in Dillingham's Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery and Schaaf's Southern Pueblo Pottery 2.000 Artist Biographies.
