About the Artist

(1918-2020)  Born at Taos pueblo, Elisa Bernal married Frank Apachito.  Both an artist and an army veteran, having served in the Women's Army Core during World War II, Eloisa subsequently worked at the Albuquerque Indian School for thirty four years.

This caring soul was referenced by Dorothy Dunn as a woman painter from Taos.  Bernal is cited in the Remarkable Women of Taos, as well as in Jeanne Snodgrass' book  American Indian Painters: A Biographical Directory and in Patrick Lester's book The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters.
