About the Artist
(Born 1980, Navajo (Dineh), Hyrum C. Joe is the "son of sculptor Oreland C Joe, paints historic and contemporary scenes. He was grew up in Kirtland and Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Reservation. The eldest of six children, Hyrum was inspired by his father's art activity. After graduating from high school, he attended Mesa Junior College in Mesa, Arizona, taking art lessons from Jim Garrison, "the best art instructor at the school." Following graduation, he returned to Kirtland and took up figurative realistic painting, focusing especially on historical images of his tribal culture.
Hyrum C. Joe was awarded a Fellowship Award from the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) in 2005. In 2004 he won the Standards Award for Best Drawing at the Santa Fe Indian Market." taken from AskArt.com
