About the Artist
(1954-2009, Ute/ Navajo) Mac Dougal Coyote, Jr. worked as a ceramic designer and as a painter. His media encompassed oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, pastel, stone mixed media and sgraffito on pottery. He won a first place ribbon at Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonials at Gallup in 1990, 1991 and 1994. He also exhibited his painting at Santa Fe Indian Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Northern Indian Pueblo Show, Red Earth in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the Heard Museum Indian Fair in Phoenix, Arizona; the Southwestern Museum Indian Art Show in Los Angeles, California; the Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market in Indianapolis, Indiana; the Lawrence Indian Art Show; and at the Haskell Indian Market in Lawrence, Kansas.
Coyote's paintings depicted people, natural animals and abstract subjects.
