After exploring both Old Master and Modernist art in Paris, France, he returned home to Peru.  There he became known for expressing subject matter specific to Peru's history and culture in a non-representational style.  His palette is vibrant and rich.  He employs gestural brushwork consistent with abstract painting of the 1950's and 1960's.
