About the Artist
At the young age of 15 in 1922, Marie Z. Chino won her first award at the SWAIA Annual Indian Market in Santa Fe NM. Along with her sister. Sarah Garcia. Lucy Lewis and others, she led the revival of ancient pottery forms. She continued to produce award-winning pottery until her death in 1982.
Marie passed her skills to family members. including Rose Chino Garcia and Grace Chino. This artist is readily identified with two styles of decoration: exquisite fine line work as well as curvilinear pictographic polychrome designs.
