About the Artist

(1933-1985)  David Emmett Williams (Kiowa/Tonkawa/ Apache) William's Indian name "Tosque" translates to Apache Man.  He was a descendant of Satanka (Sitting Bear), a Kiowa war chief.

Sadly Williams lost his eyesight in 1981 due to diabetes, but not before completing more than 2,000 paintings using acrylic, tempera and gouache.  He also drew with graphite and made prints.

His work is included in the Gilcrease Museum; the Heard Museum; the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation; the Philbrook Art Center and the Southwest Museum in California.
