About the Artist
Santa Clara potter (Born 1956) Best known for her sgraffito miniature jars, often spherical in shape, Mae Suazo Tapia has been actively making pottery since the mid 1970's.
Frequently nature informs her subject matter, from bighorn sheep on a mountaintop to tiny hummingbirds in a flower garden. Insects inspire her imagery. Her duotone vessels are particularly compelling.
Tapia has won prizes at various Indian Market competitions since 1978. Museum collections encompassing American Indian pottery include her work in their holdings.
