About the Artist

(Born 1942) This female artist from Japan attended a Tokyo College of Art at Bunka-Gakuin.  Tomoe Yokoi moved to Paris in order to study intaglio printmaking with the famed S.W. Hayter at his Atelier 17.

Her relocation to New York City in 1971 coincided with her increasingly more complex forays into the intricacies of mezzotint printing.  Pairing European still life subject matter with an asymmetric aesthetic, lends a mysterious, sophisticated quality to her compositions.

Yokoi's prints are included in some noteworthy museum collections: the National Gallery at Oslo; the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris; the Bibliotheque Nationale also in Paris; the Brooklyn Museum in New York as well as the New York Public LIbrary and the Free Library in Philadelphia.
