About the Artist

(1898-1974) One of the Five Kiowas, Stephen Mopope was one of a group of Native American artists who were brought to the University of Oklahoma by Oscar Jacobsen in 1926 and provided with studio space and materials.  Subsequently they attracted international attention at the Prague exposition.  He was also a part of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) program and executed murals for public buildings.
