About the Artist

(1898-1980) Mabel Sunn was one of the pre-eminent Maricopa potters of the 20th century. She was the mother of another well-recognized Maricopa potters, Barbara Johnson.

Mary Fernald's book Dirt For Making Things proudly illustrates a black on red bowl by Mabel in full color on page 50, also on page 49.

Mabel was an original member of the 1938 Maricopa Pottery Cooperative
