(1946-2011) Acoma pueblo potter known for her painstakingly elaborate geometric decoration on traditional whiteware forms.
Dorothy Torivio was included in the 1998 National Museum of Women in the Arts exhibit titled The Legacy of Generations: Pottery by American Indian Women. A hardbound book accompanied this exhibition. In it Dorothy's story of the artist's approach to making pottery appears in the chapter titled The Avant-Garde (pages 202-205). What is remarkable is that her designs are mentally assembled after which she paints in the negative.
