(Born 1950) A member of the Haida Nation, Calvin Bell was born in Masset, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). His family crest symbols are the two-finned killerwhale and the grizzly bear.
Since 1971 Bell was been carving argillite, having learned from Ron Russ. He is one of just a few carvers embracing the traditional old style of carving. Bell is known for his attention to detail, the depth of his carving coupled with an elegant curviliner orientation to his subjects.
