About the Artist

(Born 1955) "Sandra Sanchez Chaparro is the daughter of Angelita Sanchez and the granddaughter of Isabel Montoya Atencio who was the sister of Maria Martinez.

She gathers her materials around the Reservation, hand coils her pots, stone polishes them with a stone passed down from her mother and fires all of her pottery outdoors.  When asked what she likes best about her art.  She answered "Making my pottery to keep the tradition in our Pueblo and for younger people to keep learning".  She is the niece of Helen Gutierrez, Gilbert Atencio and Tony Atencio."  taken from Southwest Indian Pottery's website
