About the Artist

Husband of Quanita Kalestewa, this Zuni pottery is know for his production of Hawikuh Revival and traditional polychrome jars, cornmeal bowls with frog effigies, frog pots, coffee cups, figures of bears with heartlines and for his jewelry. In 1996 Kalestwa won a 2nd place award for his jars at Santa Fe's Indian Market.

This artist's work appears in several books covering American Indian pottery: Pottery Treasures as well as the Hayes and Blom book Southwestern Pottery:  Anasazi to Zuni, as well as Zuni Pottery (page 28 and page 29) by Marian Rodee and James Ostler.  Gregory Schaaf's book includes Kalestewa Southern Pueblo Pottery 2,000 Artist Biographies.
