About the Artist

Originally a book plate designer, Payne made etchings complimented often with drypoint engraving. A California resident creating her bookplates for John Howell Books in San Francisco in the 1930's, Payne often chose to execute images of San Francisco as well as reflections of her travel experiences.

She is cited in the Edan Hughes book titled Artists in California 1786-1940.
