(Born 1949) This potter from San Ildefonso learned this skill watching his mother Donicia Tafoya make clay art. Working from 1970's forward, he is known for his blackware bowls and jars. Some of these are enhanced by sgaffito decoration to include inset turquoise stones.
In 1975 Tafoya began winning first place awards. Between 1972 and 1999 he has participated in the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, Indian Market in Santa Fe between 1975-1999.
Tafoya references pottery making as an expression of artistic creation--nicely put Mr. Tafoya !
