Born in either 1946 or 1949, Laura Tafoya Pino is known for her carved and polished blackware. She learned to make pottery from both her mother Madeline Tafoya and her aunt Madeline Naranjo.
Laura began to make pottery with serious intent in 1979. According to the Schaaf book listing Santa Clara potters, she won a first with her jar and a bowl in Indian Market in Santa Fe in 1988.
