About the Artist

(Born 1951) His heritage is Taos pueblo.  Suazo attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque; the Navajo Community College in Tsaile, Arizona and the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  For over thirty years John Suazo has created stone sculptures. 

In 2006 his 30 year retrospective took place at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico.

This artist's work is characterized by simplifying forms, mainly figurative human beings, birds and mammals. These subjects all relate to his cultural traditions.

His work is currently represented by these two galleries: Bryans Gallery and Henningsen Fine Arts, both in Taos.  His sculpture has been exhibited beyond New Mexico, in both Russia and in France as well as Colorado and Arizona.  His sculptures have been award 1st place at the Taos Annual Open Show, at the Eight Northern Pueblos Art Show and at the Taos Annual Festival of Arts.
