(1874-1966) Initially Mitchell began his art career as a textile designer at the Lowell Institute located in Lowell, Massachusetts. After exposure to Provincetown, Massachusetts and the residing artists, Mitchell chose to pursue fine art painting.
He subsequently studied art in New York at the Artist Artisans and in Boston at the Cowles Art School, finishing in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Among his teachers were Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant.
He exhibited at the Paris Salon (1890 and 1897 as well as with the American Watercolor Society (1945-1946).
