About The Seed Jar with Triangular Collar

Alice's collar on this pot brings to mind facial scarification of some African tribes.

Encircling the outer surface is a band of upright then inverted triangles, colored darker than the pot's main body, defined by impressed marks. The pot's graceful curving contour is compatible with its shiny patina and nearly silent opening.

About Alice Cling

Alice Cling was born about 1946 in a hogan near Kayenta on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona. She learned pottery from her mother, Rose Williams, who is renowned for her innovative Navajo pottery.

Alice Cling is featured in Pottery by American Indian Women by Susan Peterson, Treasures of the Navajo by Theda Bassman, Enduring Traditions by Lois Essary Jacka and Southwestern Pottery by Allan Hayes and John Blom.
