Natural Blue Gem turquoise, tear drop shaped
Description
Box was forged from ingot, subsequently hammered and made into rolled sheet, enhanced with hand-made stamping.
Design
Opposing hatched slim crescents at center of lid are surrounded by scalloped designs struck on each side of the lid. A smooth silver bezel encircles this intensely teal-colored turquoise stone.

About Navajo
The Navajo were the first of the Native Americans of the Southwest to learn silversmithing from the Spanish. Most Navajo jewelry emphasizes silver, with turquoise stones used as an accent. Some pieces are cast in sand or tufa molds, while others are hammered, using a male stamp and a female die.
