Jadite and amber leaf-shaped elements embellish the raised foliate designs on this set. Some are incised to represent delicate-colored blossoms. Sets such as this one were made in China for the American market. This Turkish style was very fashionable during the 1880's. Beautiful Turkish style coffee pots were made in sterling silver by Tiffany and Gorham during that time.
In 1891 the McKinley Tariff Act went into effect. This stated that goods imported into the U.S.A. had to be marked with the country of origin. Since "China" is not stamped on the bottom of this set, this further suggests a pre-1891 date.
Own this set because it compliments the period of your residence, your nest. Older items project an integrity I find lacking in newly generated retro items.
"Unknown artist" is appropriate when a work of art is unsigned and a supported opinion about who made it is not available (on Savvy Collector).. "Attributed to" precedes the name of an artist when information suggests that it likely was made by that artist (on Savvy Collector).
