About The Artwork

Biggoose was a master of abstraction, employing subtle shifts of color to denote the various planes of a face or sections of hair. He is effective in conveying the power of the wind, as the horse's dark mane and tail are being whipped by mother nature.

About The Artist
Born in Pawnee, Biggoose attended Pawnee Indian schools, later transferring to Santa Fe Indian School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He also attended Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. Often participating in art shows in Oklahoma, his artwork has also been featured on the cover of a book titled Sundown, a book on the history of Osage Indians. Biggoose's paintings have been on display in the Galleria inNorman, the Art Market in Tulsa and at the Marland Mansion. Mars was known for having design the Great Ponca Seal of Oklahoma. He also wrote poetry. Just prior to his passing, he designed and painted the sign for the Tulsa Indian Methodist Church, the church he attended.
