About The Artist

(Born 1965) Tony Abeyta is of Navajo and Anglo descent. He grew up in the town of Gallup, New Mexico, close in proximity to Navajo and Zuni reservations with Acoma and Laguna nearby. At the age of 16, Abeyta went to study art in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the Institute of American Indian Art.

The artist chose to study art in many venues: Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Lacoste School of Art in southern France, S.A.C.I. in Florence, Italy, the Chicago Art Institute, Haystack School in Bangor, Maine, completing his graduate studies at New York University.  Abeyta maintains studios in both Chicago and in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Currently he is occupied creating large sculptures as well as oil paintings and large scale drawings. Abeyta is also known for his printmaking. His website is www.tonyabeytastudio.com.
