About The Artist
This Mexican painter, sculptor and muralist was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. A member of the group "Pintores Jovenes" (Young Painters), he was well known for a Cubist stye paintings of portraits, still lifes and figures. Murals by Servin are positioned in Mexico City and Guadalajara. For fifteen years Jose Maria de Servin taught summer art courses at the University of Arizona. This artist exhibited his work as early as 1940. In 1957 Servin received the prestigious Merciful Jose Orozco award. In 1967 he was honored with the appointment to Life Member of Friends of Mexican Art of the Phoenix Art Museum. An exhibition tribute was held in 1984, the year after the artist's death at the Regional Museum of Guadalajara.
