Classic warrior with tomahawk and feathered shield is the focal point of this great little pre-World War II necklace using handmade silver hogan and tube-shaped beads. The basis of the figure is sterling silver. Nice channel inlay is accomplished with some additional modeling of material and scribed metal in the face, hair ornament, loin cloth and moccasins. Colors and materials are used to represent the four sacred directions--white pearl shell, deep blue turquoise, red-orange coral and black jet. Arm bands and the tomahawk are made of silver adding to the depth and bringing out the fine channelwork. Overall length of this striking necklace is 17 3/8 inches, placing the handsomely worked figure at the base of the wearer's throat. The Zu?i artist, who made this piece in the 1930's, left no signature, but this striking creation has been treasured for more than three quarters of a century. It will make a unique addition to any wardrobe or collection.
