The pacing of this jar's design beautifully balances rainbows with stylized feathers, stylized vegetation, Zia birds together with white space.

About the Artist (Born 1940) Juanita C. Shije's pueblo connection is divided between Zia and Acoma. She was born at Acoma, but chooses to create pottery consistent with that found at Zia Pueblo, having married a gentleman from Zia. Known for her polychrome jars and bowls, her career as a potter began during the 1960's.  

Shije has participated in the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts & Crafts shows.

Signed "Zia Pueblo Juanita Shije" in graphite underneath
Date of creation Circa 1970's
Condition Good to excellent, as two tiny abrasions in the vicinity of one Zia bird, as seen in last photo
