20 Strand Necklace with Coral & Heishi with Sing Bead

Angie Reano

About The 20 Strand Necklace with Coral & Heishi with Sing Bead

From one strand is suspended a single bead.  It contains turquoise, shell and jet inlay.

Behind this luscious curtain drape of rich color are countless hours of intense labor.  Cutting, drilling, polishing takes months.  The work is dangerous as well as painful.

Angie Reano, like other artists of her calibre, sees only the vision of what she is creating, because the joy of bringing that beauty into the world is what she lives for.

This particular piece is part of the White Hogan collection, acquired from the artist during the early 1990's.  Its color, detail, drape and weight of this magnificent necklace is perfection, worthy of royalty.  It  honors the countless hours of one woman's life spent in its concept and completion.

About the Artist (Born 1946) This Santo Domingo jeweler first became active making jewelry during the 1960's.  Her awards are numerous from 1977 forward.

"Angie Reano is credited with reviving the tradition of inlaid jewelry in the 1970's, when the market had shifted to heishi beads and silver and turquoise jewelry.  She chose to embrace traditional patterns from prehistoric jewelry utilizing mosaic designs originally assembled on shells."  Gregory Schaaf's book on American Indian Jewelry III:  M-Z  2,100 Artists Biographies.
