Acee Blue Eagle

About The Traditional Dancer

Acee Blue Eagle is repeatedly shown wearing full dress regalia in Elder's book on the artist. Blue Eagle's experience dancing perhaps lends credence to the fluidity demonstrated in his depiction of this traditional dancer.

About the Artist

(1907-1959) Also named Alexander C. McIntosh as well as Lumhee Holot-Tee. His mother was Pawnee-Wichita, while his father was Creek. The name of His mother's clan was the name he chose to use, Blue Eagle. The Creek word for Blue Eagle is "Lumhee-Holot-Tee". The name McIntosh resulted from one family member's Scottish ancestry.

Published in 2006 by Medicine Wheel Press, The Art and Life of Acee Blue Eagle by Tamara Liegerot Elder presents a fascinating chronology of Acee's family life followed by his development as an artist.
