Joseph Bohler was born near Augusta. Montana in 1940. He grew up on a cattle ranch, where he was encouraged by his parents to draw and paint. He later moved to Monument, Colorado. where he has lived since 1977.
A traditional painter of figures and landscapes in watercolor, pastel and oil, Bohler enjoys painting on location.
Bohler is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America, a member of the National Academy of Western Art and a founding member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group. He is a six-time winner of the C.M. Russell Auction's Best of Show Award.
Who's Who in American Art references this artist's career, as does the Peggy & Harold Samuel's book Contemporary Western Artists.
In April of 2000, the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma honored him with a retrospective of his work.
