Tomato Red Coral & Sterling Silver Cuff

Les Baker

About The Tomato Red Coral & Sterling Silver Cuff

This very elegant and substantial bracelet features 10 tomato red natural Mediterranean coral cabochons set in two parallel rows of five each with silver "raindrop" accents between the bezel settings and at each end.  A beautifully sculpted curling leaf finishes the span on each side.

Because gem quality coral is produced by a living oganism, its survival and quality are subject to the caprice of nature and thoughtful conservation by man. Water pollution, parasites and global warming having dramatically altered coral populations in the last 60 years.  We are currently facing a ban on the harvesting and use of coral for any purpose by anyone.

This coral piece was created between 1965 and 1975. Coral supplied to the artist for this bracelet was harvested between 1950 and 1960.  It is very dense and of even, clear color with neither grey nor brown areas to marr its ripe red hue. Material like this has become rare and costly.  The few good pieces in coral that are made today are utilizing material from private stashes 50 to 80 years old. This coral is often set in high karat gold.

Both graceful and solid, this handsomely conceived hand-crafted cuff will last a lifetime and is a worthy heirloom for generations to come.  The red of coral is a symbol of life !
