Meticulously executed concho belt of hand-formed and beautifully stamped sterling silver elements. The buckle and conchos are artfully cut and hammered to great depth. The buckle is a rectangular--decorated with a dense display of hand-carved stamped arranged with a lacemaker's eye. Across the opening cut in the buckle is a silver bar soldered to the back--to which is fastened a grey leather strap and a sterling tongue. The maker's mark is stamped on the back, but sadly obscured beyond the first name "Alfred" in cursive lettering. The overall dimension of this closure is 2 11/16" across X 2 1/2" high. There are 6 oval 2 3/8" in length X 2 1/16" high conchose with scalloped edges. Stampwork on each of these is also very elegant. The center of each is a chisel defined dome on the back of each is a 1/4" solid copper strap. This passes through a cut-to-shape grey leather concho backing securing the concho to the belt strap. 7 butterflies or "bows" measure 7/8" across X 1 13/16" high each, are executed with the same care backed with a cushion of grey leather and fastened with a solid copper band to the belt strap. They alternate as spacers between the ovals, providing a pleasing visual rhythm. This wonderful Navajo-made, mid 20th century piece is a timeless, flawless accessory to any wardrobe.
