View Full Size Image of Perfectly Wearable 1930's Classic Squash Blossom Necklace, Jewelry by Navajo
This is absolutely one of the five most wearable squash blossom necklaces we've ever had.
It embraces the base of the neck like an Egyptian collar, creating a visual pedestal for the head and neck above. The naja and blossoms radiate from the circle of hand-made, stamp-decorated silver beads resting lightly across the upper chest from shoulder to shoulder just above the blossom--an intriguing and very feminine accent !
Though unmarked, we can say this beautiful piece was created by a master Native American craftsman some time between 1932 and 1942. Because many Navajo, Hopi and Zuni jewelers' works were focused on filling the Anglo traders' demands for a certain look during this time, it is difficult to ascertain from which tribe this elegant piece derives its origin. The aesthetic is most consistent with Navajo designed necklaces.
History aside, this is a perfect little necklace and what better time to wear symbols of abundance and new life ? ! Turquoise is synonymous with sky and water--life and good fortune--abundance to the farmer for his crops and herds. Squash blossoms remain symbols of fertility.
