About The The Little Sisters

Had this original Currier & Ives small folio print been in excellent condition, its value would have approximated $200.00.

It remains an enjoyable image with which to co-exist though, at a much more modest cost.

About Currier & Ives
"Currier & Ives was a New York publishing firm that produced and sold thousands of impressions of more than 7,000 different lithographic prints during the latter half of the nineteenth century. One of the most prolific printmaking concerns of its time, the firm originated with Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888) whose shop issued its first lithographs in 1835. . . In 1852 Nathaniel Currier was joined by his brother-in-law, James Merritt Ives (1824-1895). The firm operated until 1907." Currier & Ives A Catalogue Raisonne Volume 1 page xxi "A large number of artists were invited to illustrate various scenes and images. Certain artists were more favored by the owners of the firm: Louis Maruer, Frances Flora Bond Palmer, Charles Parsons and Thomas Worth. Each of these were known for specific types of subjects: Maurer for his rendering of trotting horses, Palmer for her still lifes and rural views, Parsons for his depicts of sailing vessels and steamships and Worth for his expressive comic scenes."
