View Full Size Image of Striking Geometric Olla Mid 20th Century, Pottery by Acoma Pueblo
This polychrome jar has strong graphic appeal. Simply signed in graphite "Acoma", it is surprising that an individual did not proudly claim this vessel as having been made by a specific individual. Its concave base reminds us that these pots were at one time balanced on the heads of women carrying water.
Diagonally stepped triangles define the area immediately following the painted rim. Two open diamond shapes are filled in a terra-cotta slip and vertically stacked, outlined with dark brown slip. Vertically stacked triangles in dark brown slip contrast strongly against the white slip ground.
