About Josef Eidenberger

(1899-1991) Josef Eidenberger was born in Austria, beginning his career as a landscape painter. In 1923 he changed the course of his art career by enrolling in the Graphic Academy of Art in Vienna.  Etching became his favored medium of expression.

After visiting the United States for the first time in 1973 he created a series of California etchings. Previously he had selected European scenes for his subject matter. The next year he was commissioned to create a group of color etchings of Williamsburg, Virginia. Another commission evolved to address the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City. This effort was followed by scenes of both the West and the East coasts of the U.S.
