About Frogwoman

(Born 1919) Joy Navasie (Yellow Flower)is in fact the second Frogwoman at Hopi. Her mother was Paqua Naha, the first Frog Woman.  Joy signed her work with a frog with web feet, whereas her mother chose a frog hallmark with short toes.

Taught to make pottery by her mther, Joy began fashioning pottery in either 1935 or 1936, continuing to be active until 1995.  She is best known for her white clay body enhanced with polychrome slip.  Her favorite designs are rain, cloud, parrot and feathers.

Every book referencing Hopi pottery of the 20th century includes Joy's work.
