About Francis Beaugureau

(1920-2001) Born in Chicago, Francis Beaugureau became a painter of western scenes including Indian figures and genre. A folio of oil paintings of his in the Valley National Bank Collection of Phoenix are titled The Indian Wars in Arizona, 1846-1886.

In Chicago, he took classes at the Frederic Mizen Academy and the Art Institute of Chicago. He spent most of World War II as a B-17 pilot in England documenting his experiences with realistic paintings of aircraft in combat. After the War, he worked as a commercial artist and portrait painter. He also became a consultant to the United States Air Force, creating art programs and a USAF museum.

In the 1970s, he lived in Scottsdale, Arizona. Beaugureau has also painted many landscapes, working in the field with camera to record details and watercolors to capture the mood. One of his subjects was Canyon de Chelly.
