About The Artist

(1794-1869) Longacre was an American draughtsman and an engraver active in his native Philadelphia. He became famous for his engraved portrait of Andrew Jackson after Thomas Sully, produced in 1820. From 1834-1839 he published National Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Americans with James Herring and with the collaboration of other engravers.
