About The Reclining Nude

The rustic visual texture of this wall-mounted sculpture conflicts with the ultra-bold color generated by the neon tubing when plugged in. It looks quite nice in daylight too!

About Maureen Havey

(Born 1957) Born in Detroit, Michigan, Havey studied kinetic and neon sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago (1985-1986) after having earned her BFA at Loyola University of Chicago. She has also studied design and medical illustration.

Havey taught photography and medical illustration at Loyola University Medical Center. Currently a resident of New Mexico, she fabricates and installs neon lights for sculptural and architectural projects.

Havey seeks to combine natural material with neon. Maureen has developed her unique vision of combining raw materials such as weathered wood, bone and stone (found materials) with glass and neon in sometimes bold, other times delicate and subtle works.

"The light created by neon is extremely compelling, due to its close physical relationship to lightning. I believe the use of this medium creates a space for acceptance of the inevitable collision of our natural aboriginal world and the recently developed high-tech world."  Maureen Havey
