About The Dom-Bor

Vasarely was initially viewed as vanguard with his visually kinetic compositions. At time passed the art community grew to overlook his contribution to the development of modern, now contemporary art as we know it today.

In recent years his significance has been re-evaluated. His canvases now bring serious money at auction and his prints are enjoying appreciation as well.

Sometimes dynamic work is temporarily trivialized, especially when those who come later, emulate the look of the original instigator of an entire movement.

About Victor Vasarely
Victor Vasarely was born in Hungary in 1908. He began his studies in the medical field, before deciding on a career in art. He studied in Budapest at the Podolini-Volkmann Academy, then transferred to the Muhely Academy (the "Budapest Bauhaus") in 1928. Following his first one-man show in 1930, Vasarely moved to Paris, where he was to live for all his life. He explored optical effects within a geometric form of abstraction, utilizing graphic techniques. He arranged geometric forms in brilliant colors to create a kinetic effect. His work using optical phenomena for artistic purposes was a major contribution to the development of Op Art. Vasarely was an active supporter of art in public spaces. Collaborating with architects, he designed murals of metal and ceramic, mainly for buildings in France. In addition, his work has been exhibited and is in permanent collections in museums all over the world. In 1970 Vasarely opened his own museum. A retrospective of Vasarely’s work traveled internationally in 1972.
