View Full Size Image of 4 Heartline Deer and Fine Line Work, Pottery by Rose Chino
Each of the four heartline deer resides inside a white diamond shape on the jar's shoulder. These balance beautifully against Chino's dynamic hatched lines running diagonally, horizontally and vertically within stepped diamond shapes surrounding the open diamonds.
(1928-2000) This potter from Acoma was active making pottery between 1967 and the 1990's. Daughter of Marie Chino, her fine line work relates easily to her mother's design sense.
Later in her career Rose developed her own designs and shapes. Rose was best known for her deer with heartlines, parrots, flowers, rain clouds, frets, lightning and snowflake decorations.
Her work has been included in every major book chronicling Acoma pottery. Her list of prizes awarded at Indian Market in Santa Fe is quite long.
